Odyssey Leadership Academy visit (April 2023)

Odyssey Leadership Academy (Oklahoma City) students and teachers visited the Saparov Lab. Dilruba Popy and Zheng Zhang did cool experiments with the students, which was followed by a presentation by Prof. Saparov about STEM education at the University of Oklahoma (OU), and available research internship programs at OU.

DOVE VIRTUAL ACADEMY visit (March 2023)

Dove Virtual Academy (Oklahoma City) students and teachers visited the Saparov Lab. We had a fun day of experiments and discussions about higher education, STEM education at the University of Oklahoma, and doing professional research.

visit from a team of 4th graders from Roosevelt Elementary School (November 2022)

A clean energy project team from the local Roosevelt Elementary School visited our lab. The kids and parents met with professor Saparov, discussed their project-related questions, and had a lab tour.

visit from the teachers and students of Fletcher high school (September 2022)

As a part of our NSF-funded education and broader impacts activities at OU, we hosted Inju Snyder and her students from Fletcher High School. The learned about solid state materials chemistry research we do, saw some cool experiments and learned about research internship and undergraduate education opportunities at OU.

NSF Research experience for teachers (Summer 2022)

As a part of the NSF-funded Research Experience for Teachers (NSF-RET) program at OU, we hosted Inju Snyder (see photos) and Heather Sims from rural Oklahoma high schools.

Discovery camp visit (April 2022)

As part of the Research Experience for High School Students (REHSS) program, we visited Dove Science Academy in Oklahoma City to give a series of scientific demonstration.

Discovery camp visit (july 2019)

Chris and Bayram were presenters at the Discovery Camp, which aims to promote a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) related career for kids aged 12-18. Chris and Bayram enjoyed interacting with kids and doing fun science experiments with kids at the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library.

High school Chemistry workshops in Dove Science Academy (April 2019)

Chris and Bayram traveled to Dove Science Academy (Oklahoma City, OK) to visit the school, meet the students, advertise our summer research program (the REHSS program) and do a fun chemistry experiments event/workshop. Here, Dr. Saparov is explaining the chemistry and physics of color and luminescence. After this, several hands-on experiments were performed.

It was a lot of fun!
